News reports from France confirm that Eurostar Paris journeys are unaffected by the general public sector strike.

Disruption has swept across other parts of the French transport network in Paris as both public and private sector workers have been on strike to protest at the deterioration of the French economy.

Hundreds of thousands of French workers attended more than two hundred rallies across the country in protest at president Nicolas Sarkozy’s inability to protect wages and jobs.

Postal workers and teachers angry with plans to shed 13,000 positions in 2009 and also court officials have all joined the day of protest alongside transport and local government workers.

Reports suggest however that disruption to travel in the capital has not been as severe as expected. Some 60 per cent of services are operating normally, while Eurostar Paris services are unaffected. So anybody arriving on Eurostar deals to Paris today can expect to arrive punctually at Gare du Nord but may face some delays with their onward journey.

Eurostar Paris Breaks from London at Full Speed in February

The section of the Channel Tunnel hit by a serious fire last September, causing changes to the Eurostar Paris timetable, will be reopened in three weeks time, tunnel operator Eurotunnel has announced.

The part of the tunnel known as “interval six” will reopen in the early hours of 10 February, said Eurotunnel who are responsible for the tunnel through which Eurostar trains travel.

High speed passenger service Eurostar said that from 23 February it would return to a normal timetable with all services to Paris and London operating at full speed. So that’s great news for anybody booking Paris breaks for the near future.
