Eurostar Increased Train Services
With all flights into and out of the UK grounded, Eurostar ran an extra 10 trains last weekend, with six more than normal planned for Monday. Between last Thursday and Sunday, an estimated 50,000 people travelled by Eurostar, up 30% on normal passenger numbers. Eurostar passengers have been urged to book online rather than just turn up at railway stations.
Tens of thousands of Britons on holiday and on business are still trying to find ways to get into, or out of, the UK. With flight restrictions extended until at least 7pm Monday, and forecasters warning that the ash cloud could hang over the UK for “many more” days, the search is on to track down alternative transport routes.
As a result of the disruption to air travel in Europe, Eurostar say they are doing everything possible by adding extra trains to help passengers who are experiencing problems. Inevitably the trains are extremely busy.
They ask passengers only to come to the stations if holding a confirmed reservation for travel.
Detailed list of the extra trains are available on the Eurostar offiicial website

News reports from France confirm that Eurostar Paris journeys are unaffected by the general public sector strike.
Disruption has swept across other parts of the French transport network in Paris as both public and private sector workers have been on strike to protest at the deterioration of the French economy.
Hundreds of thousands of French workers attended more than two hundred rallies across the country in protest at president Nicolas Sarkozy’s inability to protect wages and jobs.
Postal workers and teachers angry with plans to shed 13,000 positions in 2009 and also court officials have all joined the day of protest alongside transport and local government workers.
Reports suggest however that disruption to travel in the capital has not been as severe as expected. Some 60 per cent of services are operating normally, while Eurostar Paris services are unaffected. So anybody arriving on Eurostar deals to Paris today can expect to arrive punctually at Gare du Nord but may face some delays with their onward journey.
Do you know of any travel tour agency that can offer sightseeing tours including transportation and hotels when in Paris (example: Anderson Tours)?
It’s about £59 each way for an adult fare. People under 26 and seniors can get a discounted fare. There are also low cost carriers like Easyjet with one way fares around £70. Most of those carriers fly out of secondary airports, though, like from London Luton, so you do have to factor in the extra cost of getting there.
